Shakespeare in the Woods

Join us for our first annual Shakespeare in the Woods summer camp! This year we read Shakespeare’s tragedy King Lear. How does Shakespeare camp work? We read King Lear over the course of two weeks. We begin the morning with seminars on the day’s reading, then head to the woods for lunch and performances. This is your chance to enjoy great literature and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest together, in the company of other readers.

Recommended for teenagers who love to read. Acting experience not required!

The Writing Life: Stories of Flannery O’Connor and Franz Kafka

Franz Kafka and Flannery O’Connor are two of the great short story writers of the last century. In the Writing Life summer camp we read stories by Kafka and O’Connor together in morning seminars, then head to the woods for lunch and creative writing and recitation. This is an opportunity to read great literature in community, learn habits and skills of the writing life, and enjoy the wonders of the Pacific Northwest in the summertime.

Recommended for teenagers who love to read and write.

The Writing Life: Borges by the Bay

Jorge Luis Borges penned some of the most creative and fantastical fiction ever put on paper. His work expands the possibilities of writing fiction. In this Writing Life summer camp we read and discuss fictions by Borges and write some of our own. Mornings are spent together discussing the day’s reading, and afternoons are reserved for time in the woods or by the water, where we at lunch, write, and perform recitations.

Recommended for teenagers who love to read and write.

Can a student register for more than one summer camp?

Yes!

Where are the classes held?

Morning seminars are held at the Fairhaven Program, 1106 Harris Ave., Suite 307. Our afternoons are spent in the nearby 100 Acre Woods.

Are books and materials provided?

Yes. All registered students are provided with books and materials.

Is there homework?

Students are expected to complete assigned readings and exercises each week in order to participate meaningfully in camp activities.

Who is the instructor?
